I'd ask tons of questions, especially about all the behind-the-scenes stuff that I can why they do things the way they do, and all the big picture stuff, including asking how I can make an impact in my new role, by finding out who the most successful individuals are, and what defines their success.

By introducing these aspects to my makeup, I'd eliminate any grey areas and establish clear guidelines for how to work with me. I'd give my coworkers the information they need to know how to communicate with me and how to work with me. I'd set those expectations with my coworkers, and deliver on them. I'd establish respectful boundaries while building relationships without sacrificing performance. Lastly, I know I’ve said it before but I’m ACTUALLY going to try vlogging this summer."I'd start building relationships right away, revealing my work style, performing with consistency right off the batt. Anyways I got picked to be Urban Outfitters social media intern rep, so I’ll probably be posting more about that through out the summer. The point is to showcase our experiences in order to market to internship program. Basically they pick one intern from each of the URBN brands (Anthropologie, FreePeople, BHLDN, & Terrain) to contribute to the instagram. Two final things: In addition to my writing/blog internship, URBN also has this social media rep program thing. I read that URBN has a gym so I’m considering heading up there early everyday to beat traffic and get a quick workout in before the day starts. I’m hoping to make some friends and get a feel for my new daily route- did I mention I’ll be commuting from my mom’s house in Harford County, MD? Yeah… an hour and 10 min drive. HR is throwing all of the summer interns a welcome BBQ.

I start Monday, June 6, but I’ll be visiting the HQ for the first time this Sunday. I’m not sure, but I’m really really hoping there will be some out of office opportunities like live coverage and even photo shoots. I’ll also be pitching weekly features to promote product marketing, album releases, and current trends in music and technology. I really enjoy creating strategies and campaigns. It has a huge marketing aspect to it-I’m glad because I’m a true social media girl at heart. I also have to discover new artists, brands, and organizations for features, events, and partnerships. Some of my duties includes developing blog and social content for music and tech. Mad early right? The official position is called Music & Tech Writer Internship. So yeah, that’s the only place I applied, because I got the offer like in January. You could tell how passionate his is about his job, which is awesome. He was a little more challenging to charm, but he was cool. She liked CHVRCHES and Justin Bieber just like me (that’s a rare combo, y’all). Anyways, the woman I spoke with was so incredibly cool. I mean it’s not like I had a private office or anything lol, I was just an intern. I had to find this random ass storage closet at the ELLE office to do my interview in. Thankfully the HR peeps were mad cool and agreed to a Skype interview. I couldn’t make it because, hello, I’m all the way up in New York. I almost just said fuck it, but I finally got my recordings to upload and process.Īs you might remember I spent my winter break in NYC interning for, and that’s when I found out they wanted to do a real interview! URBN, which is Urban Outfitters umbrella company, has this huge thing called “interview day,” and all of the hopeful applicants come to the home office and do interviews. It was my first HireVue, and my shitty Wifi was really acting up. They made me do an edit test, and after that I got a callback to do a virtual/digital interview where in I just answer these automated questions on camera (HireVue for anyone who’s familiar). If you follow me on social you probably already know, but back in December I applied to the Urban Outfitters home office to be a blog intern. Speaking of summer internship, let me tell you guys a little bit about the position I accepted.

Right now I’m only working Bustle, and starting next week I’ll only have 6 hours a week with them because my summer internship is full time! I made a point to save $300 a month, and I didn’t have much problems with all the ours I was getting. By the end of the semester I found myself working 3 jobs: App curation for Bustle (which I do about 20 hrs a week remotely), social media and promotional design for the student affairs marketing team on campus- that was another 12 hours, and helping out at the Under Armour showroom a few random days a week. I know this is always my excuse, but school and work kicked my butt these past few months.
